Competition Rules
By admin*All images must be taken by the person entering the competition.
* Images may be entered in any of 6 sections:
- Large colour print. (Classic)
- Small colour print. (Classic)
- Monochrome print (any size, large or small, Classic)
- Projected images (digital, Classic)
- Creative print (colour or monochrome, any size)
- Creative projected Image.
* All prints must be mounted and have a maximum size, including the mount, of 16 x 20 inches. (40.6cm x 50.8cm) Framing is not permitted.
* A “small” print has an image area equivalent to, or smaller than 5″x7″
(12.7cm x 17.8cm) , that is, 35 square inches ( 226 square cm).
Irregular shaped prints (e.g. panorama) must show an area up to 35 square inches (226 cm2)
* A “large” print has an image area larger than that of a small print (35 square inches)
* All print entries must be labelled on the back of the mount with the makers name, the competition topic, the section in which they are entered, the date and a title which reasonably describes the image. If the image is Creative, the entry must be marked “Creative”. Sheets of suitable stickers are available from the competition steward.
*Digital projected images must have a file name which should start with a number 1 to 3, the makers name and “Creative” if applicable. Putting the number first (e.g. 1 John Citizen “Dog”, 2 John Citizen “Red Flower”) helps mix entries up when projected, rather than your images being shown consecutively.
* A maximum of 6 images per person may be entered on any night (even if multiple topics)
* A maximum of 3 images may be entered in any one section (e.g. 3 large prints, 3 slides)
* The same image may not be entered in multiple categories.
* Any winning image, ie. 1st, 2nd, 3rd or HM, in a YRPS club competition may not be re-entered in a club competition for a minimum of 12 months.

See our webpage “How to resize your images” for info on how to do this.
Classic and Creative images.
Definition of a Classic Image.
The intent of a Classic Image is that it must be a believable and true representation of the subject. The photographic content and any adjustments or corrections must be the work of the author.
However, consistent with the image remaining a believable and true representation of the subject, it may, for example-
•Be a combination of a number of exposures of the same subject to produce H.D.R., focus stack or a panorama.
•Not contain features cloned from another image.
•Not contain duplication of significant features from the same image.
•Contain adjustments which are considered to be commonly used or normal in the process of capturing and/or producing an image, such as-
…..Correction of white balance, exposure and saturation.
…..Use of “Levels” and “Curves” type tools to adjust contrast and brightness etc.
…..Cropping and correction of perspective and horizon.
…..Desaturation or toning of the entire image to produce monochrome, (i.e. sepia, etc.)
…..Removal of dust spots, blemishes and sensor spots.
…..Sharpening and blurring.
…..Redeye removal.
…..Effects similar to those which may be produced by various camera filters.
Definition of Creative image.
A Creative Image is one which does not meet the intent of a Classic Image other than the photographic content and any adjustments or corrections must be the work of the author.
The image can contain any technique or combination of images which the author may deem appropriate to produce a desired result but must be based on a photograph.
